Burnout…

By

Lately, I’ve come to the realization that I’m experiencing burnout. In my profession, it’s easy to fall into it without even noticing. We’re trained to recognize the signs—but I’ve realized I’m also great at hiding them from both others and myself. And that, in turn, takes a toll on me.

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged or excessive stress. It often shows up as overwhelming cynicism and a reduced sense of accomplishment. It can leave you feeling drained—emotionally, physically, and mentally. Sometimes even processing simple things can feel like a challenge.

The past few weeks felt like my breaking point. I made it through, but I had to scale back on tasks. That’s why I wasn’t able to share a new post. This week, though, I’ve been able to slow down and refresh—especially my mind. I’ve spent more time outdoors and allowed myself to enjoy slower mornings. With daylight saving time, I’ve been soaking in more time after work, catching sunsets.

I’m continuing to focus on self-care, because that’s what makes the routine feel less mundane. I try to weave the goals I set for myself this year into my days and weeks. I’m noticing the positive shifts, and I hope to keep building on this rhythm.

I’ve also started setting halfway points for myself. Two weeks ago marked one—knowing I’d soon have a slower week at work. Now, my next marker is the end of April, when I can start looking ahead to the finish line in mid-May.
